interest in emerging/mid-sized/VOD cable NETWORKS
Two telephone surveys will be conducted April/May among a national sample of 500 cable subscribers. One survey will measure interest in emerging/digital networks; the other in mid-sized networks. Based on description, respondents rate their interest on a 5-point scale. The questionnaire will consist of the following:
1. Interest in emerging/digital networks.
2. Interest in Hispanic-targeted emerging/digital networks.
3. Interest in video on demand and specific video on demand services.
4. Interest in mid-sized networks.
5. Awareness of emerging/digital networks .
6. Whether currently subscribe to digital cable.
7. Likelihood to subscribe to digital cable.
8. Interest in subscribing to satellite dish service.
9. Number of hours use Internet or on-line service at home per week.
10. Whether currently subscribe to high-speed Internet service.
11. Interest in subscribing to high-speed Internet service.
12. Awareness of video on demand service.
13. Interest in video on demand.
14. Awareness of and interest in DVR’s.
15. Awareness of and interest in high-definition television.
16. Demographics – The study will measure marital status, presence of teens or children, age, education, household income.
A tentative list of emerging cable networks to be measured includes:
Anime Network, Biography Channel, Bloomberg TV, CSTV, individual Discovery Digital Networks, DIY, FamilyNet, Fine Living, Fox Movie Channel, Hallmark Movie Channel, History International, Independent Film Channel, Lifetime Real Women, individual MTV/VH1 Digital Channels, NFL Network, individual Nickelodeon Digital Networks, The Outdoor Channel, PBS Kids, Sundance Channel, Tennis Channel and Weatherscan .
The mid-sized networks to be measured are: BBC America, Discovery Health Channel, ESPN Classic, ESPNEWS, FitTV, Fuse, G4, GSN, Golf Channel, Hallmark Channel, Lifetime Movie Network, MTV2, National Geographic Channel, Noggin, Outdoor Life, Oxygen, SOAPNet, Speed Channel, Style, Toon Disney, WE, and Superstation WGN.
A list of video on demand services to be measured include those of Discovery, A&E Networks, Disney Channel, ESPN, National Geographic Channel, Scripps Networks, and others to be determined.
A tentative list of Hispanic networks to be measured include those from Discovery, MTV, ESPN, CNN, VH1, Telefutura and others to be determined.
Results will be reported separately for specific age/sex groups, digital cable subscribers, persons likely to purchase digital cable, persons likely to purchase satellite dish service, heavy Internet users, persons who have high interest in video on demand, persons with high interest in DVR’s, persons with high interest in HDTV, Comcast subscribers and Time Warner subscribers. |
